3 Reasons to Shop Local in Mead this Holiday Season!

With Thanksgiving on our minds, many of us are already thinking about holiday shopping and buying gifts for our loved ones. While we feast on turkey this week, we here at Built for Mead are thinking of something else we are thankful for: the local Mead business community that helps support our community and makes it a better place to live.

Black Friday deals may be top of mind this week, but don’t forget about Small Business Saturday! National Small Business Saturday is Saturday, November 25, 2023, and we’re encouraging Mead residents to celebrate by shopping local this weekend! So, why is shopping local important?

1. Use Your Dollars to Support the Community

When you spend money in your own community, it stays in that community. It helps stimulate the economy and can help businesses hire more local employees, directly benefiting your community's neighbors and families.

Buying a gift from a local merchant is much more personal than buying from a nameless corporation online and often comes with a better story. Plus, spending a day around Mead is a great way to better get to know your community.

2. Here at Mead, We Know Community Matters

We consider ourselves lucky to live in a town where we know community matters. One reason we support our local businesses is because we know they, in turn, support our local nonprofits, schools, and community events. Studies show that local business owners will always be more likely to donate to local charities and causes.

Built for Mead has had the opportunity to speak to many of our local business owners this year (if you haven’t already, we recommend checking out our local business spotlight videos!). We’re constantly inspired to hear how much this community supports local. In fact, Krystyn Stone, Founder of MoonStone Glow, says it best, “I find the people here in Mead to be very friendly and willing to support local. There's a lot of wanting to stay local and support local companies within.”

3. Shopping Local Creates a Ripple Effect

Did you know that every dollar you spend locally has a ripple effect? When you buy a gift card from a local restaurant, brewery, coffee shop, or service provider for the holidays, it brings people into our community who may stay to shop at other businesses, fill up on gas, and do even more to support our local economy.

Additionally, when our local businesses are doing well, they may hire more employees to spend dollars locally and attract even more businesses. Use your dollars to have a positive impact on your own community this year and know that each dollar reaches further than you think.

Holiday shopping doesn’t have to be another chore on your to-do list. We invite you to visit Mead businesses, say hi to a neighbor, and appreciate the great community we can all call home.

Happy holidays from us here at Built for Mead! Thank you for making it a great year in the Mead community!
