When you Shop Locally, Everyone Wins: Shop Mead and Win
Our local businesses are the foundation of our economy. The Town of Mead holds our business community in high regard and prioritizes investing in programs and resources for their continued success. The recent Shop Mead and Win program is just one example of our commitment to their value in our local community.
During February, Shop Mead and Win encouraged residents to keep dollars close to home by shopping locally and supporting our business community. A $10 purchase at any Mead or Mead Area Chamber of Commerce (MACC) business, including retail, restaurants, shops, and service providers, or online businesses, gave residents the chance to be entered into a prize drawing. At the end of the month, shoppers visited 24 Mead area businesses and submitted 130 receipts totaling $6,205.
The program helped encourage residents to shop local with prize incentives and to find new businesses to patronize. With new shops and restaurants popping up around town, we hope we helped the community find new gems to return to year-round.
The Mead Multiplier
Every dollar spent in the Mead area continually recirculates within the community, strengthening the local economy and creating a multiplier effect. This chain reaction happens when local businesses source goods and services from other local companies, invest in local real estate, and hire nearby services to support their accounting or legal needs. They also hire Mead residents, who then spend their wages here. Hometown businesses are more likely to donate to local charities or donate to food pantries. In addition, they pay local taxes which helps to fund infrastructure and maintain the residential tax rate.
Shopping close to home is convenient and reduces the carbon footprint of those goods and services with reduced transportation emissions. More importantly, local businesses often offer unique products and experiences that you won't find in large chain stores and preserve the character of our neighborhoods.
Studies show that 80% of new jobs created come from existing businesses. By helping those businesses in our community stay and grow, we are creating more economic vitality in the community.
Supporting businesses and entrepreneurs in our community has a positive effect at any time of year. When you invest in Mead’s businesses, you strengthen our economy and build a more vibrant town. When you shop Mead, we all win.
