Sugar Mill Antiques and Vintage Depot
A local, multi-generation, family-owned business, at Sugar Mill Antiques & Vintage Depot, you’ll find over 80 shops in one venue filled with antiques, vintage items, home decor, unique gifts, and more. When the company opened four years ago, there was a lot of excitement, “We built the place from the ground up, and there was a lot of excitement around that, finally, bringing something that was retail to the town of Mead. When we opened, it was actually New Year's Day. We had a line out the door of people waiting to come in and to shop and support our business,” says Sarah Morgan, one of the owners of the Depot.
One of the reasons the family chose Mead for their business was the location, “We have a prime location, where you can actually see our building right off the interstate. I think the last traffic count was over a hundred thousand cars a day passed by this intersection, so you have a ton of visibility from the highway. So for a business, it's a fantastic business park to be in.” The location is easy to access from the freeways, with customers able to hop on and off as they pass by.
The business has also succeeded by setting itself apart from other antique stores, “We're not your average antique store. We're a little bit of everything. We have everything from antiques, vintage, home decor, and locally more.” The company also puts a focus on highlighting local makers, “We try to support Colorado makers, whether they're selling antiques, whether they're making woodworking, whatever that might be, we do our best to focus on the local businesses and small businesses in Colorado.”
Additionally, the company partners with local non-profits with their “Be the Change Program.” Every month they highlight a different local non-profit in Northern Colorado and help raise awareness, as well as setting up a donation box on the front counter where customers can drop their change. Sugar Mill matches customer donations every month.
Sarah and her family are proud to call Mead their home, “Mead's a great community. It is an amazingly tight-knit community. You've got an incredible group of people that are very supportive of the community in general, whether it's the schools, whether it's the businesses. It's a phenomenal small town. It still, while growing rapidly, kind of has that small-town feel.”
