Boulder Scientific Company
Based in Mead’s industrial park area since the 70’s, Boulder Scientific Company has plenty of experience working with complex chemical molecules to manufacture unique, high-performance organometallic compounds for specialty chemical needs. The company has over 200 employees at its two Weld County locations, with most of its workers coming from the surrounding communities, but growth is still in the company’s future. According to CEO Rich Preziotti, “there's probably another 50% in heads in the next five to seven years that we'll need to add.”
While the company draws from the surrounding communities for its workers, due to the nature of the work, recruitment is also a key strategy. Rich comments on attracting the right kind of employees, saying, “We've done a lot of recruiting of people who've come here, and where we've been successful, it's someone who has a desire to be in the outdoors and take advantage of a lot of what Colorado has to offer. People who like to hike and ski, like a climate where it's sunny more than 300 days a year, in an atmosphere that is cosmopolitan but also has the Rockies at their footsteps. Those are the types of people who've really resonated with moving to Colorado to work for Boulder Scientific.”
On the company’s website, you can browse through the categories of molecules they manufacture, but beyond this, the company also does custom synthesis. These specialty chemicals are used throughout the United States and internationally by companies in the plastics, microelectronics, defense, and aerospace industries. The company takes an entrepreneurial focus with its customers, collaborating from the very beginning of projects.
The company is also happy to welcome the new neighbors they’ve seen coming into the industrial area, “I think Mead is poised to attract light industrial manufacturing, like lots of the front range, distribution and warehousing are big opportunities for businesses in this part of Colorado. There is a pro-business orientation in the town and the administration of the town, and it's a great place to live.”
