What Businesses Need to Know about Temporary Use Permits Updates in Mead

Food trucks and mobile vendors have become staples in our community, bringing new flavors, local entrepreneurship, and fun gathering opportunities. In the Town of Mead, updated information on Temporary Use Permits makes it easier for mobile food vendors to operate while keeping everyone safe and organized.

Food trucks, push carts, and similar businesses are allowed to operate on both public and private property in Mead. To do so, vendors simply need a Temporary Use Permit and a Town of Mead business license. The permit is issued by the Town Clerk’s Office and ensures vendors meet local health, safety, and operational guidelines.

The good news for vendors: the Temporary Use Permit is completely free. This helps keep Mead welcoming to small businesses, entrepreneurs, and food truck operators who want to serve the community.

To apply for a permit, vendors need to submit a few basic items:

A completed Temporary Use Permit application (available here: https://bit.ly/meadtemp_use)

  • A simple diagram or site plan showing where the food truck will operate (a hand-drawn sketch is perfectly fine)

  • Written permission from the property owner if operating on private property

  • A Weld County Health Department certificate for food service

  • A Colorado State Sales Tax License

  • A Certificate of Insurance

In addition to the permit, vendors may also need a Town of Mead Business License. Businesses that earn more than $3,000 in sales or services within Mead each year are required to obtain one. The annual license costs $30.

The process is also designed to support community events. If a festival, gathering, or special event plans to host multiple food trucks, the event coordinator can apply for a single Temporary Use Permit that covers all vendors.

By offering a straightforward and affordable permit process, the Town of Mead continues to support local businesses, food entrepreneurs, and community events—while making it easy for residents to enjoy great food throughout town.
