
How to Start a Business in Mead
STEP 1: Meet with Town of Mead Planner

When contacting the Town of Mead, make sure to include:
Type of business and proposed use
Location (new or existing construction)
Number of employees
Estimated square footage
Parking needs
Consultation
During your consultation, you’ll discuss:
Zoning and land-use requirements
Permits, licenses, and studies you may need
Contact details for Town staff that can assist you
Depending on the scale and type of business, a pre-application consultation may be recommended.
Post Consultation
After your consultation, you’ll receive a follow-up from the Town that summarizes the meeting, details the next steps, and any additional questions you may need to answer.

STEP 2: Registration, Permits, Licenses & more
Register Your Business
Visit the Colordao Secretary of State website (www.coloradosos.gov) to register your business and obtain Federal and State Tax Identification Numbers
Apply for Building Permits
All new businesses require a commercial building permit and inspection to verify zoning and building code compliance.
Create an account in CommunityConnect
In CommunityConnect:
Apply, manage, and pay for permits
Add contractor information
Schedule inspections as needed
Upload required documents

Obtain Licenses
A valid Business License is required for all businesses operating within town limits, including a Home Occupancy License for home-based businesses.

Secure a Certificate of Occupancy
Obtain Certificate of Occupancy
A Certificate of Occupancy (CO) is a legal document that signifies a business complies with all local building codes and regulations, allowing it to be occupied for business activities. A CO will be issued once all inspections are complete and meet all local codes, including licensing requirements.

STEP 3: Business License Finalization
LiCENSE Granted
After fulfilling all requirements, your Mead Business License will be issued and emailed, allowing you to operate. Business/Home Occupation licenses are issued for each calendar year and must be renewed annually.
